As students were arriving to school this morning on a 10:10 late arrival day, they realized they couldn’t enter the building due to a fire evacuation that occurred prior to first period.
Since it was the seniors’ last day of class, many thought it was the alarm was a prank; however, assistant principal Mark Rigby assures that it was not.
“The fire alarm was triggered in room 1520 which is our engineering room. There was some wood being cut and some of the dust triggered the fire alarm. It was not a senior prank, I was down there when it happened,” he said.
Some students were happy about missing class, while some others weren’t so pleased.
“I was really hot and I wanted to be in air conditioning. First period is the only class I like so I kind of care we’re missing it,”junior Olivia Hofeld.
“I really liked the fire drill because it delayed class even more,” freshman Andrew Bortey said.
According to Rigby, it took more than 20 minutes for the fire department to clear everything up and allow students and faculty back in, which delayed an already shortened first period.
