It’s that time of year again! Time for hard work, sweat, and dedication, and Coach Milo Cejociv is looking to take this year’s boys varsity soccer to a whole new level. Starting this year, he will be the new head coach for the boys, and he has big plans for the team!
“We’ve had a very busy summer. We had our camp at the beginning of June which was then followed by our summer league, which stretched from late June to early July. We finished with a weeks worth of practices to get in prime conditioning at the end of July. I know some of the boys have also been doing training sessions on their own throughout the summer as well.”
According to Cejovic, this year’s group of boys is ready to step up their leadership game, and ready to do some great things on the field.
“I think we are going to be really good this year because the new coaches are bringing in a new system, and putting a big emphasis on fitness, which was a problem last year,” senior and co-captain, Mario Kosir said.
Many of the boys were on a club team, or worked privately over the summer to improve their skills, or even recover from an injury.
“Last year I hurt my groin in the second game of the season, which resulted in me sitting out for the majority of the season. I worked hard in the off-season playing club and for the Niles West summer league team with the rest of the guys, and this season will be a lot different from last year because our team has grown closer than ever. We played together almost every morning, and would sometimes hangout later during the day. Despite the loss of a few seniors, some of the younger guys stepped up and have proven themselves to be very skillful. I can’t wait till we start playing because we have a lot of talent, and we will show every team how dangerous we are,” senior and co-captain Mario Bajric said.
The team is really looking forward to proving themselves this year, and showing everyone how their hard work has paid off. They have come up with a set of goals individually, and for the season as a whole, and expect to accomplish them.
“The main goal is to always get better. Every training session, every classroom session, every game. There has to be an evolution within the player as an individual and the team as a collective,” Cejovic said.
The boys’ first game will be today, Tuesday, Aug. 25 at 6 pm in the stadium. Make sure to come support!
