Skokie police notified Niles West, Niles North, and Niles Central today of a suspicious person alert.
According to police, a male, white or Middle Eastern, was spotted on Saturday, Oct. 3 at 12:30 p.m. taking pictures of the Iran Hebrew Congregation located in Skokie. The person was confronted by police and stated he had been taking pictures of the sign in front of the building.
A male matching the similar description was seen Saturday, Oct. 3 at 2:48 p.m. taking photos of Niles North High School. The person attempted to enter the school but was unable to do so because the doors had been locked.. When approached by security he said, “I already talked to one of your guards.” He then proceeded to leave the premises, according to police.
The subject has been spotted driving a 2015 Chevrolet Malibu, 4-door, plate #IL E906649.
A statement released by community relations director Jim Szczepaniak said, “All three schools are taking appropriate precautions, working in close cooperation with the Skokie Police Department, to keep our schools safe.”
Niles West security coordinator, Brent Fowler said, “It is incredibly important to me and we are taking this very seriously.”
Fowler said he could not elaborate due to security reasons.
