The Girl’s Varsity golf team qualified for the State Sectional tournament as a team for the first time in the team’s history. The Girl’s varsity golf team has only been in existence for 3 years.
Senior Sara Dym had the best score in the region. She shot an 80 on a par 70 course at Bridges of Poplar Creek. The team overall placed 2nd, and will advance to sectionals.
Head coach Richard Lee is very proud of his team’s accomplishments and is looking forward to the sectionals.
“I’m really excited that in just 2 years of playing varsity golf, the team has qualified for their first state sectional. They’ve worked hard and deserve all the accolades they’ve received,” Lee said, “I’m especially proud of the seniors who joined the boys’ team their freshman year because there was no girls program. They deserve much of the credit for building the program to what it is today.”
The Boys’ team did not qualify for sectionals as a team, but senior Skylar LeVine and junior Jake Peiser will advance to sectionals as individuals.
Head coach for the boys, Mitch Stern is looking forward to LeVine and Peiser’s upcoming performance at sectionals.
Stern said, “it’s going to be raining birdies and pars in Niles West golf, baby. We’re taking it all the way!”
Boy’s will play at the Bridges of Poplar Creek and the girls team will play at Cog Hill on Monday.
Good luck to both teams at sectionals!
