The NWN interviewed varsity head coach Nicole Reynolds about this year’s Girls Softball Team, team bonding and going to Disneyland for a tournament March 26-31.
NWN: How do you think that the team will do this season?
Reynolds: Hopefully, we will do well, we have some new talent and returning players on the varsity team. Having all these different talents mesh together should give a solid team this season.
NWN: What are some of the teams goals this season?
Reynolds:We, of course, want to do well in the conference games and try to have a winning record. We also strive to win a regional game, and we’re also going to work hard and have a lot of fun.
NWN:Which team member will have the most significant impact on the team?
Reynolds:I think it will probably be Joanna Lefevre. She is our senior catcher, and she controls what we do on defense.
NWN: What should the school know about the Girls Softball team?
Reynolds: We are going to work hard and try to win every game, and we are going to give it our best day in and day out.
NWN: Which game do you think will be the teams’ most challenging game?
Reynolds: New Trier always gives us a tough battle and many non-conference games are a challenge as well. With our Disney trip coming up, we’re going to have the opportunity to play against other teams from other states, which is again another challenge although it’s going to be fun.
NWN: What are some strengths and weaknesses of the team?
Reynolds: A strength we have is that the team has a lot of returners (eight returning seniors), but a weakness is that the rest of the team doesn’t have experience together. We aren’t cohesive as a team yet, but going to Disneyland should help with that, and when we become a more cohesive team we will play very well.
NWN: So what is the team looking forward to on the Disney trip?
Reynolds: We’re looking forward to just being in Florida, enjoying the weather, being out of state and getting the chance for a different level of team bonding. It’s going to be exciting.
NWN: Is there any other comments that you would like to add about the season?
Reynolds: I am just really just looking forward to my first year as the head varsity coach, and I’m really looking forward to what this season has in store for us.
