Coming January 20, 2016, the 6th annual Pizza Wars is taking place at Niles North High school’s main gym from 6:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m., although the pizza tasting ends at 7:15 p.m. or until it’s gone.
Pizza Wars has become an annual fundraiser for the District 219 Education Foundation assisting children in need in the Niles Township area.
Each year, around 10 pizza places bring their signature pizza to the table. This year’s Pizza Wars contenders are Bar Louie, Father & Son Italian Kitchen, Gulliver’s, Jet’s Pizza, Lou Malnati’s, Organic Life, Riggio’s Ristorante, Village Inn Pizzeria, and Wa-Pa-Ghetti’s Pizza. Nothing Bundt Cakes will provide water and dessert.
This year, there will be a pizza eating contest between the four area mayors. Lincolnwood Mayor Jerry Turry, Skokie Mayor George Van Dusen, Morton Grove Mayor Daniel DiMaria, and Niles Mayor Andrew Przybylo. The winner will be the contestant who finishes the most amount of pizza in 5 minutes and will be crowned at 7:30 p.m.
A raffle will take place at the event for a chance to win gift cards and prizes. Those who bring in non-perishable food items will receive a free raffle ticket. Otherwise, the raffle tickets will be sold for $3 for one, and $5 for two.
Tickets are available in advance of the event which are $12 per person and can be purchased HERE. Tickets at the door will be sold for $15 per person.
“I love all kinds of pizza but it’s even better at Pizza Wars because last year I paid $15 to enter and I’m got around 10 slices pizza and dessert,” junior Steven Hristov said.
Last year’s Pizza Wars 5 did a great job by fundraising over $17,500 for the District 219 Education Foundation.
“Last year I remember having a lot of fun walking around, tasting pizza that I haven’t ever tried before. It was a great experience for me and my friends and it’s even more satisfying knowing that the money goes to a good cause,” junior Jenny Pineda said.
