Sing Strong is a weekend long A Capella music festival where groups from around the world perform. It is scheduled to take place at Niles West on March 11, 12, and 13. The festival is not only singing, but there are many classes you can take as well. All the classes and performances all take place at Niles West. Classes generally begin at 9:30am, and usually happen two or three at a time; they teach a lot of singing related topics such as beat-boxing, arranging, and copyrighting.
Tickets are usually $100.00 for a weekend pass, which also includes performances from professional groups from all around the world. For the Niles West competition, tickets are $15.00.
Being chosen to perform is a huge accomplishment for schools because only the best perform.
“It’s a very big accomplishment to be chosen to be in the festival because we only take the top ten schools in the Midwest. Many of our competitors are semi-finalists in the ICHSA competition brackets,” teacher Amy Branahl said.
Freshman Leah Nano is excited to perform their work one last time.
“I’m most excited to be able to perform our set for competition one more time because this is the last time we’ll sing it,” Nano said.
Other students are glad to show off their hard work.
“I am excited and it is an accomplishment to be in Sing Strong because it’s a new, fun thing I get to experience. The girls in High Fidelity have been working so hard and this is another way we get to show everyone our hard work. Also, being in Sing Strong gives me an opportunity to meet new people and to have a chance to see other amazing groups perform,” sophomore Sarah Cohen said.
