Editor’s Note: This is the eleventh in a series of 18 stories about this semester’s Principal’s Recognition Award winners who were recognized on Wednesday, April 20 for outstanding achievement in specific programs. Senior Josephine O’Shaughnessy received the Student Services Award and was nominated by Mr. Mitch Stern.
Josephine O’Shaughnessy, most well-known at Niles West for her many theatre productions, has taken advantage of everything Niles West has to offer. She has mastered juggling her AP classes, sports, and extracurricular activities.
Often this award is given to someone who has done something amazing and has turned his or her life around, but in Josephine’s case, she has been doing amazing things since she walked into West as a freshman.
“Getting this award was a nice surprise because usually it is given to a student who has overcome some type of obstacle,” O’Shaughnessy said.
Time management has become a big factor in keeping Josie on track, and she has never had a problem with procrastination. When all of her school work has been completed, she spends time with her hobbies, such as theatre.
“Josie is an example of who you should be when you come to high school. She has gotten involved in every area of school. She does everything well and does everything with a smile on her face,” guidance counselor Mitch Stern said.
