This year’s annual Powder Puff game will take place on the Tuesday of homecoming week, Sept. 20, instead of the traditional Friday before homecoming. The game is still held at Niles West’s Basrak stadium after school.
If you’re interested in participating in this year’s Powder Puff game, register HERE before the Friday, Aug. 26 deadline. The $20 fee is due to executive secretary of students activities, Kelly Adamovic, in the student commons by Friday, no later than 3:3o p.m.
The annual Powder Puff game is a girls-only football game. The teams are divided up according to your grade; freshman and seniors are paired up onto one team, and sophomores and juniors form the opposing team. Powder Puff is a Niles West tradition, that ends up being a lot of fun for students and coaches alike.
“From what I’ve heard, all of the girls and coaches love it and it’s a lot of fun for everyone,” Adamovic said.
Powder Puff gives the female students at Niles West the opportunity to play non-competitive flag football.
“I played my freshman year with all of my friends and we had a blast and met so many people that I don’t think I’d ever meet if it wasn’t for Powder Puff. Who says girls can’t play football too?” alumni Nora Kifarkis said.
Students have enjoyed attending Powder Puff in past years as well, getting a new side of a traditional high school game.
“It was really cool watching the girls play because it was so different from the boys’ football games,” senior Alen Radeljic said.
The first meeting before the annual game will take place on Thursday, Sept. 8
