The Niles West girls volleyball team will be facing off against the Niles North Vikings in order to spread awareness for childhood cancer. The game will take place this Thursday, Sept. 15 at 6 p.m. The purpose of this game is to open up the eyes of people who may be oblivious to the bigger issues around them, such as cancer.
Millions of children around the world are battling with this threatening illnesses. Many young lives are taken daily, and an enormous amount of people are oblivious to this situation. The Niles West and Niles North girls volleyball teams hope to inspire people to make donations to a cause that’s bigger than themselves.
Junior and varsity volleyball player Nicole Zelazko believes that everyone should come out and support the D219 girls volleyball teams. She also thinks that it is important to try and make a difference in this world, and coming to the game and donating to the cause can make a small but meaningful one.
“I think it’s important for people to come to the game on Thursday because it is dedicated to the awareness to kids who are battling cancer,” Zelazko said. “Many people aren’t fully aware of the hardships and struggles that millions of children have to go through. Raising awareness and making donations can make a huge difference. It’s also a plus that you get to see your Niles West girls varsity volleyball team take down our biggest rival, Niles North. It’ll be a good time for an even better cause, and I guarantee you won’t want to miss it!”
Junior Callieh Mohr is excited for the game, and she believes it is for an extremely good cause.
“I love how the volleyball team is playing a game for cancer awareness,” Mohr said. “I think it really helps open up people’s eyes to bigger world problems, and something fun and entertaining like volleyball is a positive way to spread the awareness.”
