District 219 students recently participated in the FCCLA (Family, Career, and Community Leaders of America) competition on Friday, Feb. 17 at Harper College in Palatine, IL, where they earned 54 medals. The 32 Niles West students who competed earned five Most Outstanding medals, 10 Gold medals, 16 Silver medals, and one Bronze medal.
Students from Niles West participated in three different event categories: Early Childhood, Culinary Arts, and Fashion. The following students earned medals in their respective competitions:
Early Childhood events:
Most Outstanding Gold medal in Children’s Literature Presentation- Susan Audico and Jennifer Rebollar
Gold medals in Children’s Literature Presentation- Alison Chepulis, Kalia Johanson, Beata Sypos, and Mary Kirarkis
Personal Child Care Provider- Brian McBride
Culinary Arts events:
Most Outstanding Gold medal in STAR Culinary- Tyrese Singleton and Leonardo Cruz
Gold medal in Occupational Salads- Michael Youkhana, Sienna Scala, Nathan Nguyen, Zainab Siddiqui, and Enerelt Baatar
Silver medals in Occupational Salads- Carlos Lome, Jessica Salgado, Krysten Ismael, Mena Gomez, Maria Gunartt, Simon Chilimon, Moshe Buelvas, Rachel Santana, Connor Heneghan, Jordi Villagran, Adnan Khan, and Damir Pehar
Cake Decorating: Leah Steinfeld
Steinfeld is also one of the top nine in the state for STAR Culinary.
