The Niles West Choir’s upcoming spring concert is to be held on Thursday, March 16, at 6:30 p.m. in the Niles West auditorium. The choir will be showcasing all their hard work and talent, as they perform practiced and rehearsed pieces.
Sophomore Kenan Ozer feels confident in the choir’s ability for the upcoming concert and is looking forward to performing the various pieces.
“I’m excited to show all of the hard work we’ve been putting in for the past few months. Masters choir will be performing three songs, and my favorite piece is ‘Sicut Cervus’ because each voice part has a difference that intertwines with another. The songs showcases how music is everywhere and is for everyone,” Ozer said.
Many other choir members are in agreement. Junior Tricia Pabst feels that the performances are going to showcase not only the choirs, but also each voice individually.
“We are performing three pieces, and my favorite piece to sing is ‘For the Fallen’ because it is a beautiful song that also features a trumpet player from the Niles West band. These songs showcase each voice section, but another piece, ‘Make Our Garden Grow,’ is fun to sing because it has some really high notes for the sopranos,” she said. “I also think we have a really nice blend as a group that is very evident when we perform. Besides performing with the Masters choir, I also enjoy watching the other choirs perform and seeing how far they’ve come since the fall concert. We have a really strong program and this concert should be awesome.”
As the concert soon approaches, sophomore Leah Nano is enthusiastic about what her choir and a cappella groups have prepared.
“I’m looking forward to seeing what the other choirs have prepared for the concert,” she said. “My favorite piece is called ‘Back to Before,’ and it tells the story of a strong woman who won’t be pushed around anymore. Each song is showcasing something different, but they’re all equally as strong.”
The choir concert will feature performances from Women’s Choir, Chamber Choir, Concert Choir, and Master Choir, as well as a cappella groups High Fidelity, Echo Effect, and Guys and Dolls; it is expected to last about two hours. Make sure to be there to witness a performance that’s sure to leave you amazed.
