Following the resignment of former girls basketball coach, Tony Konsewicz, taking over the program will be math teacher, Kyle Braheny. 

Braheny has been working at West since 2011 as a math teacher and coaching boys basketball. He has previously served as the assistant coach of the varsity boys team and the head coach of the boys sophomore team.

Sophomore Sam Galanopoulos expresses her feelings about the departure of the former head coach.

“I’m really sad that Coach K is leaving. I wish he would’ve stayed or maybe re-applied, but in the end, he did what was best for him and I need to respect his decision. He will be missed and I loved him as a coach,” Galanopoulos said.

Galanopoulos is excited to see how Braheny will add to the already well established girls basketball program for next season.

“I am really excited to have him. He’s super young, energetic, extremely positive and I can’t wait for him to bring some new and completely different ideas to the program and show his competitive spirit,” Galanopoulos said.

Much like Galanopoulos, junior Tricia Pabst is excited for a new perspective and the new energy Braheny will bring to the table for next year.

“It is hard to predict what next season will be like and what the program will look like, but we are all just really excited to get to work with a new coach,” Pabst said.

Braheny is the most excited to start getting to work with the girls and getting to share his knowledge of the game with them.

“It is a really good opportunity. I have known these girls for a little bit from the basketball program, and I’ve seen them play a little bit so I expect nothing but good things out of us,” Braheny said. “I am most looking forward to getting on the court and seeing how we do. I am excited for the potential and to see them play together and work together as a team.”
