Hello, Niles West! Summer is over and it’s time to get back to the daily grind of the new school year. The key word is “new.” With the new school year comes new friends, new teachers, new classes, and new ways to get involved at West.
Did you know that Niles West offers more than 90 clubs and 24 sports teams? Within these 90 plus clubs are many, many genres. The genres include philanthropic clubs such as Relay for Life and Dance Marathon, cultural clubs like IndoPak and Chinese Club, environmental clubs like Narwhals and S.A.V.E., and other fun clubs like Cooking Club, Book Club, Hip/Hop Club, Ski and Snowboard Club, R.I.O.T., National Honor Society, Student Government, Master Jedi Sci Fi Club, and Urban Exploration Club.
There are many academic teams offered as well. This would include Math Team, Science Olympiad, and Debate. Another great way to get involved would be our award-winning Fine Arts Department. Band, Orchestra, Choir, and Theatre are always looking for new members. Last, but certainly not least, are the media clubs. This includes Images (creative writing journal), the Spectrum (yearbook), and our very own NWN (news media either broadcasting or online). The NWN would love to have students of all grades contribute as writers, broadcasters, or photographers.
Well, there you are, my fellow Wolves. As someone who is involved in many activities herself, I can assure you that becoming involved in your school is one of the best decisions you can make.
Freshmen, I’m specifically talking to you! Join a team, join a club, join a media outlet. You will meet all types of people and will have a better high school experience. Colleges look at how involved you are. If you decide that out of all the clubs that Niles West offers that none are for you, start your own. Don’t be shy, get involved, and check out our 10th Period page for details about club meetings!
