The Chicago Cubs are officially out of the race to win the World Series. The Cubs lost to the Los Angeles Dodgers in the National League Championship Series, putting the Dodgers in the World Series for the first time since 1988.

The National League Championship was a seven game set, with a team needing to secure four wins in order to move on to the World Series. The Cubs lost the series 4-1 after the Dodgers beat them by an embarrassing score of 11-1. The Los Angeles Dodgers are now playing the Houston Astros in the World Series.

West Cub fans are devastated and heartbroken by their team not making it to the World Series in 2017. Junior Nina Gillespie explains her sorrows.

“It’s really upsetting knowing they’re not going to be in the World Series this year. No championship, no parade, no celebrating, it really sucks. Last year just seems like it was a miracle, and everything happening now is just a disappointment. I guess we’ll just have to wait for next year,” Gillespie said.

Juniors Adnan Perazic and Sammie Simkins knew that it was a long-shot to try and beat the Dodgers in the NLCS. Despite taking the series in 2016, they believe the Cubs weren’t ready to face such a great team.

“I knew from the start of the season that our pitching was going to be a problem. Our moves in offseason weren’t so great, I mean we got rid of arguably the best closing pitcher Aroldis Chapman who helped us win last year. Plus our offense wasn’t so good. Big names like Kris Bryant and Anthony Rizzo weren’t performing like they used to. You can’t expect to win when all of that comes into play,” Perazic said.

Simkins is right on board with Perazic.

“The Dodgers were really good this year. I don’t think [the Cubs] were ready to face them at all. Our bullpen just isn’t the same and isn’t as good as it was last year. The bullpen pitchers just didn’t do their job,” said Simkins.

The Chicago Cubs will have to make lots of moves in the off-season to improve themselves to have a better chance next year. The team has already fired pitching coach Chris Bosio, third base coach Gary Jones, hitting coach John Mallee, and more.

The Houston Astros currently lead the series 3-2, with the next game being scheduled for Tuesday, Oct. 31st at 7:20PM. If the Astros win tomorrow, they will be the winners of the 2017 World Series.
