By Sam Galanopoulos, Staff Writer

With Halloween coming up this Tuesday, people are scrambling to find a last minute Halloween costume. Everyone thrives on getting the cleverest, most unique costume possible, yet many people forget that you can make your own costume. DIY (do-it-yourself) costumes are the cheapest, easiest way to come out with an awesome look. Here is a fun list of DIY costumes that you will definitely want to try.

Damian from Mean Girls

Every teenager has had a glimpse at the 2004 hit movie Mean Girls. With all of the different actors and actresses, one definitely stands out: Damian. The peppy, opinionated teenager is known for his infamous quote: “She doesn’t even go here!” Of course, you can make a costume out of that. By putting on a blue hoodie, pulling the hood tight, and writing that quote on a piece of paper, you have become Damian. It’s a simple, cheap costume that will grab the attention of many.

Mummy

Who doesn’t love a dead person walking around on Halloween? This may be the easiest costume known to man. All you have to do is walk into your bathroom, take the roll of toilet paper off the holder, hold the end up to your body, and spin. You will become a mummy in seconds. This costume is a very traditional one that has been absent for years. Be the one to bring it back and rock some toilet paper.

Netflix & Chill

Everyone who is in a relationship knows the term “Netflix & Chill.” This slang could come to life with your significant other or even your best friend. Get one red shirt and one blue shirt for the both of you; go to the Dollar Tree and buy a package of stick on letters for, you guessed it, a dollar; stick “Netflix” letters on the red shirt and “& Chill” on the blue; become inseparable for the entire night, so you are “Netflix & Chill.”

Ghost

The next option is being a ghost. This costume is the most comfortable, simplest one there is. All you have to do is rip your white bed sheets off your bed, cut some holes into them, practice your ghost sounds, and enjoy trick-or-treating. Not only does this costume remind you of being comfortable in your bed, but it is absolutely free. A ghost is a forgotten costume that definitely needs to come back. (Warning: Please ask your parents before cutting your bed sheets.)

Cow

Who doesn’t love animals? From fluffy kittens to cute dogs, everyone thinks of being an animal for Halloween. Another fun, and less used, animal is a cow. This costume is fun, effortless, and requires nothing additional. For this costume, all you need it to wear a white shirt and pants. Once finding your articles of clothing, take a black markers and begin drawing spots all over your body. Then grab your jug of milk out of the fridge, and you are on your way. This costume is extremely original and a favorite to many.

Twister Board Game

This sixth costume option is definitely the most original: a human board game. This outfit is the most expensive on this list, racking up a three dollar receipt at the dollar tree. Materials needed for this are paint, paint brushes, and a poster board. Paint the twister pattern on white clothing, and then paint the actually twister board on the poster, and you are off. Enjoy spinning the pointer, landing on a color, and twisting your way through the night.

Cereal Killer

The last costume that is a must is being a cereal killer. This costume is absolutely free. The two materials that are necessary are just your breakfast cereal and the biggest knife in your kitchen. Pairing these two items with black clothing will make the look. Enjoy going house to house and scaring other trick-or-treaters in the neighborhood.
