Parent Teacher Conferences to be Held Thursday
Oct 31, 2017
Parent-teacher conferences will be held on Thursday, November 2nd this week from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Thursday will also be an early release day, as ninth period will end at 2:11 p.m.
Parent-teacher conferences will allow teachers to inform parents about the classes their students are taking and their performance in the course.
Although all parents are encouraged to come, attendance is an ongoing issue.
“I think parent-teacher conferences are really important because it gives parents the opportunity to have face to face contact with teachers they’re concerned with. It gives us teachers a moment to interact with parents,” biology teacher Jayson Foster said. “The issue I face every year is that the time is too short, and most of the time I don’t get to see parents I really need to see. Most parents who come have kids who are doing fine in class.”
Despite the pressure to show up, some students think going to conferences is pointless.
“My parents aren’t coming to conferences because they know I’m a good student. They don’t need to waste their time talking to teachers when they know I’m doing well in school,” senior Amanda Isaac said.
The following day Friday, Nov. 3, will be a teacher-institute day, and West students will not have to attend school.
