The Complete Fashion Guide for December

By Ella Ilg, Staff Writer

Spending time with friends and family is the best time to show off the latest and comfiest fashion trends. As the warm tones of fall leave us, the cool tones of winter swoop right in to replace them. Swap out that brown lipstick for a dark purple and hop into December with the following fashion items.

Boot Cut Jeans

As the shoe of choice goes from gym shoes to fur boots, boot cut jeans are the obvious choice. Tucking your boyfriend cut jeans into your Uggs or Doc Martins is never a great look, so invest in some classic boot cut jeans to save you some time in the morning that you usually spend jamming your jeans into your winter boots. Boot cut jeans are available from American Eagle, NordstromGap and Target.

Good Winter Boots

Everyone has their favorite pair of Uggs, but with pending snowfall, they could easily get ruined during a walk to the car or the bus. It’s important to find a quality pair of waterproof winter boots that are cute, but still practical. This applies to the Timberland-obsessed boys as well. Timbs are waterproof, but after weeks of stepping in snow and puddles, the suede is going to get ruined. Take a trip to Lands End or LL Bean to find a great pair of boots. Some can be pretty expensive, but they can last you years.

Cool Toned Flannels

Among the trends making a comeback, flannels are one of the most comfortable. As the seasons change, however, it would be wise to trade out the red and brown for blue and purple. Along with most other clothes, it’s important that your flannels stay with the seasons and the colors around them. Bright red flannels make someone look like a Canadian hunter, so unless that’s your desired look, stick to the cool tones. Tops like these are available at Urban Outfitters/J.Crew.

Coziest Accessories

The best part about the colder months is the feeling of being covered in soft, warm fabric from head to toe. Start from the top with some pom-pom knitted hats, a fashion classic, which are available at low prices everywhere from Walmart to Macy’s. Working down, there’s the knitted infinity scarf, which is always a wintertime classic. It’d be wise to trade out the thin cotton scarves from fall for something a little more thick and cozy; these are available almost anywhere. Finally, invest in a nice pair of gloves, preferably with touchscreen finger tips, so you can use your phone outside without your fingers freezing off. These are available at Vineyard Vines and Eddie Bauer.

It’s always important to stay warm and fashionable as we enter into this holiday season, so make sure to take advantage of this guide during your next shopping spree.
