[singlepic id=2394 w=320 h=240 float=left]The NWN had the chance to sit down with Girls Cross Country Head Coach, Anne Heselton, to talk about this year’s team.
NWN: How does the team look this year?
Heselton: We look really strong this year. All of our top seven Varsity runners from last year are returning, and we have a really strong sophomore class, with runners like Taylor Genis and Gillian Flippo.
NWN: Which meets are the most important? Do we have a tough schedule this year?
Heselton: The schedule is always tough. Five of the top-10 teams will be at our first meet at Hindsdale South. Also, the conference and sectional meets will be very tough.
NWN: What are the teams best attributes?
Heselton: They’re willing to work hard. We also do a lot of activities outside of running, which greatly improve team bonding. We went Colorado over the summer, went on a canoe trip, and had a few water balloon fights.
NWN: Who are the best runners on the team?
Heselton: Our best runners are our captains, who are seniors Maggie Swanson, Jessica Sutfin, Annie Gouddes, and junior Michelle Karp.
NWN: What are some team goals for this year?
Heselton: We want to continue to improve every time we race, work hard, and do well at conference, regionals, and sectionals.
NWN: How far can the team go this year?
Heselton: It’s up to them. If they’re willing to work for it, it’s not out of the question to qualify at state.
