The NWN sat down with head coach Mitch Stern to talk about this year’s Golf team.
NWN: How is the team looking this year?
Stern: The team is as strong and deep as it has ever been.
NWN: How tough does the schedule look this year?
Stern: Well, the schedule is tough every year. Our conference is one of the toughest in the state.
NWN: What are some key games during the season?
Stern: One of the key games this season is our first conference game (which Niles West lost to Glenbrook South 156 to 151, with Nick Hester finishing 2 under par, 33, and Nate Lee 1 under par, 34). Another key game would be against Evanston (which Niles West won 152-166).
NWN: How would you describe the team this season?
Stern: The team is senior-led and it has a lot of depth. We have some good players this year.
NWN: What should everyone know about the team?
Stern: Everyone should know that all students and staff can watch our games at any time.
NWN: What (if any) are some team and/or season goals?
Stern: We would like to finish in the top half and also qualify for sectionals this year.
NWN: Who are the best player(s) on the team?
Stern: Senior Nick Hester and sophomore Nathaniel Lee.
NWN: Realistically, how well will the team do this year?
Stern: Our goals are attainable. If we click on the right days, our goals can be easily reached with good practice and determination.
The Golf team takes on New Trier today at 4 p.m. at Winnetka Golf Course.
