The Niles West Math Team had their first NSML (North Suburban Math League) competition last Thursday, October 11th. The team did well, scoring 226 points and placing third overall at the competition.

Going by individual grade levels, our Sophomores placed first with 54 points and our Freshmen placed second with 63 points. As well, Freshmen Adam Cudzich and Alicia Malek got perfect scores on the Freshmen contest and Sophomore Alex Thoppil got a perfect score on the sophomore contest. It’s great to start the season off strong, and the team is very proud of the freshmen who are starting their first season perfectly.

Pavle Vuksanovic, the team’s oralist, placed 2nd in the orals category with 45 points.

Lastly, and most importantly, the team won the candy bar competition. The candy bar is a group contest where the whole school works together on twenty problems and three tiebreakers, and the winner gets a bag full of candy for the bus ride home.

Overall, the team did great and expects a great season ahead of them.
