Prom is a lot closer than you think and alongside it comes promposals. You can ask anyone to prom; your best friend, significant other, or someone you just met! Promposing is all about the gesture to accompany your special night with someone you enjoy spending time with. With that being said, promposing can be tedious and stressful so here are some tips to help ease the process.

Things to do…

  1. Make it special – Incorporate the little things and show your attention to detail! Nothing speaks more than centering something huge around a little thing. The key to promposal is to make it relevant to your relationship with that person.
  2. Flowers – Every promposal, regardless of the gesture, should be accompanied by flowers. Every rose color is followed by a meaning so pick a dozen of roses that fit your relationship best! Red for love, white for purity, yellow for friends, and lavender is love at first sight.
  3. Have something that spells Prom – You do not have to do prompose with a poster, even though it is very popular, but you should write prom somewhere so the message is clear. Nothing is more awkward than having the other person not know what is going on!
  4. Ask their friends – Whatever you do you want to make sure that the person you are asking is comfortable and the best way to figure that out is reaching out to their best friends. Some people may hate being asked in public displays and some may want that, but the only way to find out without spoiling it is by asking their friends.
  5. Make it a surprise – The best reaction you can get is when they aren’t expecting it most. Organize it with their family or friends to make the promposal a surprise at a convenient time for them.

Things not to do…

  1. Do not write sloppy – This is huge… Nothing looks more careless than writing very child-like and making it look as if you put no effort into it. If you have bad handwriting, which many do, then ask someone else to write it for you!
  2. Do not have an irrelevant theme – You should ask in a special way, not with a random theme that you found on Pinterest. You can use online sources for help and ideas, but don’t just steal the entire gesture. Make the promposal personal and interactive!
  3. Do not just assume you are going with someone – A lot of times, typically couples, just assume that they are going with their significant other. Although it may be implied, you should still ask that person in a nice and formal way! It will bring some spark in your relationship and show them love and expresses a lot of emotion.
  4. Do not just ask then leave – After the promposal spend time with that person since you are going to be sharing a special night together. Take them out and have a good time together because it will make the promposal have good memories connected to it after and creates the hype for prom.
  5. Do not forget to post about it – Use the hashtag #nwnpromposal19 for a chance to win free yearbooks and flex how adorable your promposal was. The pictures are always adorable and show off your hard work on making this promposal possible!
