Indigenous Peoples’ Day Announcement
Oct 11, 2019
This coming Monday, Oct. 14, all students and faculty will be at home enjoying their three day weekend because of Indigenous Peoples’ Day. This holiday celebrates and remembers the Native American people and culture that once used to dominate North America.
This day used to be reserved for the notorious explorer Christopher Columbus, but after conversations surrounding his violent past, many began to reject him and his holiday. Indigenous Peoples’ Day began as a counter-celebration to Columbus Day, but it is now recognized as a holiday in many localities. Classes will resume on Tuesday, Oct. 15.
