Netflix is well known at this point to drop some pretty solid movies and TV shows that are exclusive to the streaming service, but they really did it this time which the release of a three-part docuseries “Killer Inside: The Mind of Aaron Hernandez” about the tragic life of ex-NFL superstar Aaron Hernandez. Hernandez was a star tight end for the New England Patriots, but his stardom was cut short after he was accused and eventually charged with murder.

The documentary, which is in three one hour parts goes over the early stages of Hernandez’s life along with what eventually led up to him killing someone. The series goes into extreme detail that can be hard to watch sometimes and is very personal. In the end, I think Netflix did a great job of telling his story and showing not only how it affected Hernandez, but the people that were close to him as well.

As I said earlier, the docuseries can go into excessive details at times and I think it even went a little too far on some personal matters of Hernandez. For example, they seem to talk a lot about Hernandez’s sexuality and I think for someone who is not able to defend himself, it was a bit unnecessary and its something that can never really be proven true.

What I liked most about it all was definitely when they talked about the inside of his brain and what exactly was going on up there. When it was analyzed by scientists, it was proven that Hernandez had a very extreme case of CTE resulting from many head injuries he suffered while playing the game of football. From the amount of trauma his brain went through, as a 27-year-old man, he had the brain of an average 82-year-old and it’s pretty scary to think about all the other football players in the world possibly going through the same problem that he did. Many people believe this was the main factor in him attempting and successfully killing multiple people.

Throughout the three hour total run time, there wasn’t a moment where I wasn’t on the edge of my seat intrigued with what I was watching and listening too. Even for someone who isn’t really a fan of football, I think this docuseries is extremely interesting and is sure to stir the mind of anyone who can watch. It’s definitely binge-worthy and I might even need to watch it a second time to make sure nothing was missed.

Unfortunately, “Killer Inside: The Mind of Aaron Hernandez” is only a limited time series on Netflix but with the popularity that is has received from the Netflix community, I wouldn’t be surprised if it ends up staying on for good. With that being said, I still think anyone who is looking for an interesting documentary to watch should most definitely give this a shot because even if you are a football fan or not, I can guarantee you it will be entertaining and worth the time.

I didn’t have much knowledge on Aaron Hernandez prior to watching but now I feel like I can explain in detail the entire story of his life and I can only hope that Netflix will continue to make other series on infamous athletes around the world. I highly recommend “Killer Inside: The Mind of Aaron Hernandez” for anyone who likes documentaries or is just bored on a weekend looking to kill time. I would give this series a rate of a nine out of ten.
