Netflix’s “To All the Boys” Sequel A Cute and Simple Love Story

By Andrea Espino, Staff Writer

Released on Feb. 12., the long-awaited sequel to Netflix original movie To All the Boys I Loved Before was released a couple of days before Valentine’s day. In the first movie, Lara Jean, played by Lana Condor, is a normal shy girl who barries herself in romantic novels. No one really talks to her until her five love letters get sent out to all of her childhood crushes. It turns out okay in the long run when her first boyfriend is revealed.

Throughout To All the Boys: P.S. I Still Love You, the main character, Lara Jean, is pulled between two guys that she both loves. One is her current boyfriend, and the other is someone who she’s had a crush on when she was younger. Lara Jean starts the movie off in a stable relationship with jock Peter Kavinsky, played by Noah Centineo, but they face many obstacles that affect their relationship and their trust in each other. Since this is Lara Jean’s first relationship, she’s confused about how to deal with having trust in one another and communicating with each other.

The first movie To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before received a lot of hype, as many people all over the world were in love with the plot, which kept them on the edge of their seats along with the amazing actors. For some of the actors, this was their first movie to be featured in, and they gained a lot of fame from it. It was such a hit movie that people couldn’t stop talking about months after it’s release. Fans were thrilled when the trailer of the sequel came out because after watching and the first one, they were excited to see how Peter Kavinsky and Lara Jean’s relationship turned out after finding out that they were perfect for each other in the first movie.

The sequel felt a lot shorter, even though both were around two hours long. The storyline was plain and everything that happened, like Lara Jean and Peter Kavinsky facing trust issues because of his ex-girlfriend. Breaking up and then getting back together was expected, so nothing was surprising in the movie expect when Lara Jean received a love letter back from John Ambrose, which led to both of them having feelings for each other. However, Lara Jean discovers that she didn’t like John Ambrose in that way and quickly leaves to find her true boyfriend, Peter.

The camera work was extraordinary in this movie. The drone did an amazing job capturing b-roll and transitions of the streets and nature to show where each character was heading to next.  The shots were perfectly taken that the smell of pine trees, sweet flowers,  and fresh air in the mountain could be almost be detected. The relaxing music added to that aesthetic look, too, which made it much more appealing to watch.

They chose the best date to release it so close to Valentine’s day, for it brought a lot of viewers in and gave them something to watch with friends or family to get into the holiday season. In the end, a life lesson found in this movie is that a real relationship should have trust, loyalty, and love. I would recommend watching this movie if you have Netflix and have some downtime and would give this story a rate of 8 out of 10.
