Apr 3, 2020
The coronavirus has no doubt taken over our daily lives and disrupted the activities and hobbies we typically enjoy on a day to day basis. To keep you entertained and safe while practicing social distancing, the one thing you can turn to that won’t disappoint you is streaming services. Here’s a list of the top five movies to keep you busy and help branch out to watching movies you wouldn’t normally watch during coronacation.
1. 1917
The movie “1917” features two young British soldiers and their journey to deliver a highly important message to the other British camp in France where they must travel beyond no man’s land. The movie takes place during World War I and highlights the struggles of soldiers fighting during trench warfare and the risks of going beyond the trenches. The story of how the two soldiers, Lance Corporal Schofield and Lance Corporal Blake, cross along the dangerous and life-threatening no man’s land to order the other British camp to halt their attack against the British is fascinating and chilling. The graphics are truly astonishing as well as the one-take shot of the camera while filming the scenes along with the superb acting.
2. The Pursuit of HappynessÂ
Although an older movie, “The Pursuit of Happyness,” is one of the best movies there is. Starring Will Smith and his son Jaden Smith, as a single father evicted from their apartment, they have nowhere to go. As the father eventually earns a job as an intern at a reputable brokerage firm, he doesn’t earn enough money to support him and his son. The two end up living in different shelters and undergo many difficult obstacles, but the father refuses to lose hope as he attempts to build a better life for him and his son. The heartwarming story of believing in yourself and finding the little things in life to be the most special parts is what makes this movie.
3. Contagion
The movie “Contagion” begins with the death of Mitch Emhoff’s wife from an unknown disease. This disease then becomes a global pandemic with the world in a panic. Doctors across the globe struggle to find a cure for this unknown virus and try to contain it as best as they can, but society around them continues to collapse as time races. The acting and authenticity of this film are crazy; it resembles much of the current situation the world is in right now with COVID-19 becoming a growing pandemic and problem today.
4. Jersey Boys
This film is based on the story of how the famous music group of the 50s, Frankie Valli and the Four Seasons came to be and their journey through fame and fortune. It features their hit songs and is sung beautifully by the main actors with their vocals incredibly soothing and similar to the voices of the Four Seasons themselves. The acting, soundtrack, and storyline is something truly unique and one of the greatest movies I’ve ever seen. It’s just incredible to see how a group of Italian boys from the bad neighborhoods of New Jersey come together and become one of the greatest rock and roll groups of the 50s.
5. Everybody’s Everything
As one of the most famous rappers in America, “Everybody’s Everything” tells the story of rapper Lil Peep‘s road to success and the impact he left on those after his death in Nov. 2017. The movie simply touches you as you reminisce on how amazing and different Lil Peep was from other artists during his time. The film explores his rise to fame through his new genre creation comprised of punk, emo, and trap. The movie itself is terrific and heartfelt due to the fact that Lil Peep died at the young age of 21 from a drug overdose.
