The New “It” Accessory for Zoom: Blue Light Glasses

The New "It" Accessory for Zoom: Blue Light Glasses

By Luca Hatzopoulos, Managing and Social Media Editor

Blue light glasses are the new “it” item for the school year.  For those of you who don’t know, blue light glasses are non-prescription glasses that limit your exposure to blue light, which is found in phones and computers. These glasses are perfect for students and teachers, especially during online learning, since we are staring at computer screens all day.

I purchased my pair of blue light glasses back in April so that I could use them during remote learning in the spring. Back in April, they were well known, but not a lot of other students I knew had a pair, so I felt a little out of place wearing them, considering most people knew I didn’t even wear prescription glasses in the first place.

Fast forward to this month of remote learning, and I noticed a lot of my other peers who didn’t wear glasses before, wearing them on zooms. I was excited to see that many other people have discovered the benefits of wearing blue light glasses.

Typically when I’m on my phone or computer for long periods of time, my eyes start to get tired, and my head starts to hurt. I noticed that when I started to wear my blue lights more frequently and regularly, my eyes wouldn’t feel tired, and I wouldn’t get headaches. It’s a miracle that these glasses were invented because now I don’t have to complain to my parents about always having headaches or tired eyes. They were such a hit for me that my entire family ended up each getting their own pair as well.

If you’re anything like me, at one point, you probably wished you had glasses, or maybe I’m just weird by wishing that. My mom would always wear funky and eccentric pairs of glasses that she rocked so well; I always wanted to be like her and wear glasses. Fortunately, I don’t need real prescription glasses, but unfortunately, I never got the satisfaction of wearing cool, funky glasses. That was until blue lights became a thing, and I didn’t need to have a prescription as an excuse to wear glasses. Basically, what I’m trying to say is, these glasses are an added accessory to your everyday fashion that lets you express yourself even more. You can get all types of colors, styles, sizes and patterns that’ll help you spice up your pajamas on zooms.

Since blue light glasses have started to become more popular, you can find them in most stores. The great thing about these are that they are affordable, you can be ballin’ on a budget and not waste a lot of money or, you can go above and beyond and purchase expensive pairs to be bougie.

These glasses are definitely a must-have for the school year. You won’t regret buying a pair!
