“The Kissing Booth 3”: Is It Worth the Watch?
Aug 18, 2021
At last, “The Kissing Booth” has reached the end of an era with its release on August 11. For those of you who aren’t familiar with the film, there are three protagonists: Elle, played by Joey King, Noah, played by Jacob Elordi, and Lee, played by Joel Courtney. Elle is best friends with Lee who has an older brother, Noah. As she gets older, she finds herself thinking of Noah as more than friends. One thing leads to the next and they begin dating. In both of the previous films, we see the pair’s friendship and relationship flourish, but there are still many obstacles for them to overcome. Because they have now graduated, the final struggle Elle has to face is choosing which college she wants to attend.
With the weight of college being enough pressure for one person to handle, Elle has two other things she needs to worry about. Should she apply to Harvard where her dashing boyfriend is, or should she go to Berkley with her best friend? I know this may seem like an easy decision to some, but Elle can’t afford to lose the two most important people in her life. Let’s not forget to mention she and Lee have been planning for college since they were kids. When I watched this part, I thought about how deciding for college at a young age with your friend might be stressful, because over time your interests change.
As the plot develops, Elle makes the decision to attend Harvard with her boyfriend. She trusts Lee’s friendship to pull through even from miles away. Even though Elle is excited to be with Noah, she feels bad for betraying Lee. Luckily, the two ultimately come to an agreement and decide to spend the summer completing a list of activities they made as kids. Honestly, I thought the list was very cute because it signaled how far their friendship has come. However, with 22 activities to complete before summer ends and a boyfriend to spend time with, things can get a bit messy.
Everything was running smoothly until Elle started blowing people off. She also ran into her “ex,” Marco, at work, which caused some tension between Elle and Noah. Over time, Lee became upset with Elle for always being late and forgetting about their plans. He eventually confronted Elle about it which lead to a huge fight and the end of their friendship. As if Lee leaving Elle wasn’t enough, Noah broke up with her because he was afraid her decision to go to Harvard was solely based on him. When I saw this part, I felt extremely bad for Elle because she focuses on everyone but herself and in the end she still lost her two closest companions. Even though losing Noah and Lee was hard on Elle, she was able to truly find herself and attend a college that suits her.
After watching the movie, I really enjoyed how Elle found herself in the end and didn’t base her decision off of some guy. One scene I liked in particular was the ending, I thought it was extremely cute how Noah and Elle still liked each other after many years. On the other hand, I didn’t like was how predictable the movie was at times.
Overall, the cinematography was impressive and the editing was superb. I would definitely recommend watching this movie if you’re ever bored, or are just looking for some romance. I would rate this movie a 7/10.
