Opinion: What to Buy Your Crush on Valentine’s Day

By Katelin Chong, Arts and Entertainment Editor

February is here and today is Valentines Day! For those of you looking for gifts to hand your crush, look no further — here are some ideas of what you could get your valentines.

  • Jewelry

Any type of jewelry could make the perfect gift — it all depends on the person’s taste. If you know the person you’re talking to is a fan of bracelets, consider getting them a nice bracelet for Valentine’s day. Giving someone a special piece of jewelry will give them something that will remind them of you!

Some popular items to think about are birthstone necklaces or blue evil eye jewelry. Birthstone jewelry is unique to each person, so giving someone such a necklace will be sure to make them feel special. Blue evil eye jewelry has also been trending recently — the talisman is meant to give its wearer spiritual protection.

  • A self-care kit

Putting together a little box of self-care items will show your valentine you care about their wellbeing. You can consider adding items like face masks, lip balm, lotion and maybe even some of their favorite snacks!

Personally, I think self-care kits are enjoyable to put together, but are still really thoughtful. They can honestly be made up of anything you think the other person will appreciate, so have fun with it — make it look presentable, and to top it all off, write a considerate card for the person you’re gifting it to.

  • A nice mug

This one is especially for any avid coffee or tea lovers out there — having a nice mug to drink out of in the mornings is one of the best feelings. Receiving a nice mug from someone on Valentine’s Day would be sure to make someone’s day, especially if you put some more thought into the design. There are tons of different mugs out there, so do not be discouraged if you can’t find THE one right away.

  • Baked goods

Who wouldn’t like getting a box of cupcakes on Valentine’s Day? If you know your crush is a fan of sweets, consider putting together a basket of baked goods for them. Try finding out what their favorite pastries are, or where they like to get them from.

  • Stuffed animals

Finally, stuffed animals are always a safe choice for getting someone a gift — most people can’t resist a soft plushie, especially from someone on Valentine’s day. Recently, Squishmallows have become much more popular, so I would recommend those. They come in a range of sizes and are really soft. So for people who are like me and will always appreciate stuffed animals, Squishmallows are a top choice.

Overall, this is my take on what you should consider getting your crush on Valentine’s Day. I hope this helps, and I wish you luck on Valentine’s Day!
