[singlepic id=2843 w=320 h=240 float=left]The NWN sat down with head coach Anthony Genovesi to discuss the Boys’ Wrestling team and expectations for the 2011-2012 season.
NWN: How is the team looking this year?
Genovesi: We return 11 out of 14 starters from the team that went to state last year, which should help us during the season.
NWN: How does the schedule look this year?
Genovesi: The schedule is definitely going to be tough. The guys have to be ready for some hard tests early on in the season. These tests will help challenge the guys later on.
NWN: What are some of the team’s strengths and weaknesses?
Genovesi: Our strengths are that many of our guys competed at varsity matches last year, which helped prepare them for this year. Lots of the guys returning from last year have a lot of experience. Our weakness is that we have a lack of depth with heavier weights.
NWN: Who are the key contributors to the team this season?
Genovesi: Well, we have 11 returning guys. Most of the key contributors were sectional-qualifying in the 2010-2011 season. This group includes Steven Apple, Nick Yonan, Tommy Williams, Sam Conrad, Anthony Underwood, and Vaughn Monreal-Berner.
NWN: Are there any other comments that you would like to add about the team or season?
Genovesi: We’re gonna have tons of depth this year and we expect to have a very challenging and exciting season. Hopefully, we will learn along the way and it will prepare us for the end of the season. The competition within the room should be exciting to watch this year.
