Niles West Girls Soccer Beats Pritzker on Senior Night
May 17, 2022
After a season full up ups and downs for the Niles West varsity girls soccer team, the girls rallied together on their senior night in a dominant win against Chicago public school, Pritzker High School. After the 6-0 victory, the girls head into the postseason with high hopes taking on Lincoln Park High School in the first round.
As for senior right-back Abbey Adams, finishing their regular season on a win is everything she could’ve asked for, and more.
“My senior season has probably been my favorite high school season. Playing with the girls is the best part of the sport as well as making memories with them. Senior night is important to me because us seniors get recognized and it’s just a memorable moment for all of us. Winning the game is the most important part, and we’re glad we came through on senior night.” Adams said.
Senior goalkeeper Marina Stellatos acknowledged her excitement for senior night.
“I was most excited for senior night because after setting up for my former teammates posters and decorations for four years, it’s nice to see that effort return. I love every single girl on the team and was happy to share the field with that at home one last time,” Stellatos said.
Stellatos is high on enjoying every moment, even the small ones.
“If I were to give advice to any underclassmen looking to play soccer or sports in general, it would be to enjoy every moment. Whether it’s at practices, in the rain or on the bus, you’ll remember those small interactions. Looking back on it now as a senior, I would do anything to relive those moments,” Stellatos said.
As for senior center-back Janine Gin, senior night was a blast, but also emotional considering the circumstances.
“I was really grateful for all the girls spending their time making sure it was a great time for us but it was also sad on the other end because it’s the end of my soccer career,” Gin said.
Making sure on and off chemistry is strong is something that Gin advises for the future Niles West girls soccer players.
“Make sure you have good relationships on and off the field with your teammates because that will make or break your season,” Gin said.
The team will take on Lincoln Park in a playoff match tonight at 6:30 p.m. at Evanston High School, best of luck to the girls in their playoff run.
