Sarah Jessica Parker, Bette Midler, and Kathy Najimy become the Sanderson sisters once more for Hocus Pocus 2. The first Hocus Pocus was created in 1993 and 29 years later, the second Hocus Pocus came out in theaters and on Disney+. This being said, I was thrilled to be able to watch this sequel by Anne Fletcher.

Snuggling up on my couch getting ready to watch the movie, I had little to no idea about what the sequel was going to be about, but I was excited to find out.

The movie starts off with the three Sanderson sisters in the past when they lived in a little town called Salem. The sisters were then banished by Reverend Traske after Winifred Sanderson refused to marry a boy in her town. The Sandersons flee to the Forbidden Forest and meet The Mother Witch who gifts them a magical book for Winifred’s sixteenth birthday. The Mother Witch then teaches the sisters lessons such as eating children for their youthfulness.

Now back to the present day, two Salem teenagers called Becca and Izzy celebrate their Halloween by doing a ritual they have been doing since they were five. The only difference is, they were gifted a black candle from Becca’s dad’s magic shop and decided to do the ritual in the Forbidden Forest. Because of this, Becca and Izzy were able to resurrect the sisters. When I first realized the Sanderson sisters were coming back to life, I was shocked but thrilled to see the movie play out. In my opinion, they rarely aged from the first movie.

Once the sisters realize they are alive again, they start to wreak havoc. Sarah, Winifred, and Mary Sanderson want to take revenge on Reverend Traske. But because they have been dead for almost thirty years, they are actually hunting down the Reverend’s descendant.

Now that you have the gist of it, I am not going to spoil it anymore, but I recommend going ahead and watching it. In my opinion “Hocus Pocus 2” was a really great movie because it incorporated significant details from the first Hocus Pocus. For example, in the first movie, Sarah Sanderson rode a mop throughout the town, but in the second one, she rode a Swiffer. Also, the majority of the movie was comedic and seeing the Sanderson sisters in the past as well as their reasoning for wanting to return home was very interesting.

If I had to rate this movie, I would give it a 7.5 out of 10. The plot was so interesting, and I really enjoyed the upbeat music. The ending wrapped up the whole movie and the teaser at the end made me question if there was going to be a Hocus Pocus 3. Overall, this is a great Halloween movie that I will probably add to my rewatched Halloween movies list just as I did with the first Hocus Pocus.
