[singlepic id=1066 w=320 h=240 float=right]The NWN had a chance to sit down with Girls Varsity Basketball head coach Tony Konsewicz to talk about the season, the team, and Jewell Loyd reaching 3,000 points.
NWN: What are the team’s strengths and weaknesses?
Konsewicz: The team strengths are that we have great leadership, we have seniors stepping up and leading by example, and we’re a very quick team. We also have more depth coming off the bench this year than in previous years. Our weakness every year is that we’re not a very big team.
NWN: What are the teams goals this season?
Konsewicz: Our team goal as always is to play as well as we can. We want to win conference and hopefully make it to state.
NWN: What are some key games this season?
Konsewicz: All conference games are key, we play in such a tough conference that all our games are big. Plus, we play Whitney Young at home for the first time ever this season, so that game should be big too.
NWN: Who are the teams key players?
Konsewicz: Loyd is going to be key for us this season, she’s one of the only people to have a shot at getting to 3,000 points for her career. Also senior Jackie Cardenas, junior Molly Kleppin, and sophomores Alex Galanopolous and Lashay Shumate will all be big for us this year.
The Lady Wolves play next against Niles North at home on Saturday, Dec. 3 at 6.
