The new calendar proposal for the 2014-2015 school year was approved last night at the board meeting.
Additionally, the rest of the annual review of programs was voted on and approved.
Students and staff members have mixed feelings about this change.
“If it’s better for the students, I’m fine with it. If the students are fine with ending finals before winter break, it’s fine with me,” social studies teacher Matt Weatherington said.
“I think it’s stupid. I feel that kids take winter break to study,” sophomore Jocelyn Rodriguez said.
“I like having a stress-free winter break,” sophomore Rhiannon Galowitz said.

I don’t understand why it’s fair for the board to vote on matters that don’t concern them at all? I think they should have done a mass survey and vote for all the students and use that data to make a decision.

There was a survey students could fill out, but you could definitely argue that it wasn’t publicized enough. I got it in my e-mail. I’m not too bothered about it, though, because I’ll be out of here in 2014. You shouldn’t be, either.
Also, if you look at the link to the annual review of programs, it’s actually quite extensive (131 pages), so you could infer that none of the decisions were made lightly.

What kind of student would want to read 131 pages of fluffy garbage… we just want cookies.
