[singlepic id=3238 w=320 h=240 float=left]There aren’t many words do describe the dominance shown by the Lady Wolves in their Regional Semi-final win last night. In short, Niles West obliterated the Taft Eagles 53-13, and in doing so earned a spot in Friday night’s Regional Final.
West came out in the first quarter somewhat sluggish, and only led 9-4 at the end of the first quarter. The game opened up in the second quarter as seniors Jewell Loyd and Liz Troyk both hit threes in the quarter and West led 22-6 at the half.
The Lady Wolves began the second half with a full court pressure that turned into a 14-0 run to start the quarter. In the fourth quarter with most of the starters on the bench, Troyk hit her fourth three-pointer of the game, which made her the leading scorer in the game with 12 points.
West also got key contributions from Loyd who had 11 in the game, as well as seniors Jackie Cardenas (six points, two blocks), Lexi Leftakes (2 points), and Janet Iqal (3 points).
Varsity Head Coach Tony Konsewicz reflected on how good the team played in the second half after the game.
“We got off to a sluggish start, but we picked up the pace in the second half, and we had 16 minutes of positive basketball to end the game,” he said.
The Lady Wolves play next against Lincoln Park on Friday night at 7:30 at West.
