The Girls’ Track and Field team is off to a great start, and has had repeated success over the past few years, sending a few girls down state each year. One of those state qualifiers is senior Sunshine Simon, who has competed down state for three consecutive years. Her performance in the last three indoor meets is the reason why the NWN has named her February’s Athlete of the Month.
NWN: How does it feel to be Athlete of the Month?
Sunshine: “It feels really good. I’m happy and I was surprised when I found out.”
NWN: How do you feel about your performance so far this season?
Sunshine: “I feel really confident about my performance so far. I think I have really good times this season.”
NWN: Is there anything you’d like to improve on?
Sunshine: “My time in the 55 meter high hurdles. I want to break the school’s record this season.”
NWN: What are your hopes and anticipations for outdoor season?
Sunshine: “I want to make it down state and make the final.”
NWN: What meet do you think will be most challenging?
Sunshine: “Sectionals.”
NWN: What are your favorite events?
Sunshine: “I really like the 4x4oo meter run and the 55 meter high hurdles.”
NWN: What will you miss the most next year?
Sunshine: “My team and coaches.”
