Weekly Sports Recap and Preview

With everything going on in students’ lives, it’s easy to miss what’s happening with sports at school. There are always live tweets you can check, but sometimes you can miss those too. Starting this week here at NWN we are going to have a weekly sports recap for games occurring the week before and also a preview for the games in the week to come.


Tuesday, Sept. 15

Boys golf played Waukegan at Willow Hill Golf Course. West won with a final score of 169-197.

Girls golf played Resurrection at Edgebrook Golf Course. West won the match.

Girls varsity tennis played an away match against Maine South. Unfortunately the wolves lost the match 0-7.

Boys varsity soccer played Maine South at home. The game ended in a 1-1 tie.


Wednesday, Sept. 16

Girls varsity golf played a tri-conference meet against Deerfield and Evanston. Deerfield won with a score of 165 just two points ahead of the wolves score of 167, Evanston came in last with 206.

Girls volleyball played Evanston at home. With scores of 23-25, 25-14 and 24-26 for the three sets Evanston won the game.


Thursday, Sept. 17

Last Thursday the girls varsity golf team was supposed to play Maine West and Glenbrook North at TAM but the match was cancelled due to rain.

Boys varsity soccer played Waukegan at home. The boys ended with another tied game, this time 3-3.


Friday, Sept. 18

Girls varsity tennis was faced with another rained out match, this time for their home match against Evanston

Girls varsity swimming had an away meet at Niles North. West lost to meet to Niles North.

Our varsity football team played Deerfield at home. The game was supposed to start at 7:00 p.m. but due to rain was rescheduled for 6:00 p.m. The Wolves lost 46-21. The game was played in extreme weather conditions– it poured all night at Basrak Stadium.

Girls varsity volleyball played at Maine East for the Maine East invite. The girls played teams from Leyden, Plainfield East and Oak Forest. Against Leyden west won 25-18 in the first set and 25-15. They also won 25-19 in both sets against Plainfield East. The girls won the final game for the night against Oak Forest with scores of 25-18 in both sets. The Invite continued on Saturday morning.


Saturday, September 19th

Girls varsity volleyball continued to play games for the Maine East invite. The first game of the day was against Warren. With scores of 23-25, 25-20 and 16-25 for all three sets the wolves lost against Warren. The girls also lost against Maine South with scores of 25-12, 23-25 and 16-25. The wolves finished in fourth place for the invite.

The girls varsity tennis team played a quad against Lane Tech, Niles North and Taft. The wolves won against Lane Tech and Taft with scores of 5-0 for both. With a score of 2-3 the wolves lost by one match against north. West came just short of first place, taking second behind Niles North.

Girls varsity swim and dive had a meet against Glenbrook North. West lost to GBN for swim but won in the diving portion of the meet.

Boys soccer was supposed to play against Northridge Prep, but due to poor field conditions the game was cancelled.

Today, Monday, September 21st

Boys golf plays New Trier at the Winnetka Golf Course at 4:00 p.m.

Girls tennis plays a home match against Glenbrook South at 4:30 p.m. on the Oakton (front) Courts.

Girls varsity volleyball is playing away against Maine South at 6:00 p.m.

Tomorrow, Tuesday, September 22nd

Boys varsity golf plays Evanston at Wilmette. The match will begin at 4:00 p.m.


Thursday, September 24th

Boys golf will play against Niles North at Chevy Chase Golf Club. The match is at 4:00 p.m.

Girls varsity golf plays St. Ignatius at Billy Caldwell Golf Course. The match is set to start at 4:15 p.m.

Girls tennis will play home against Waukegan, the match will start at 4:30 p.m.

Girls varsity swimming has a home meet against Maine West. The meet is at 5:30 p.m.

Girls volleyball plays Lane Tech at home, starting at 6:00 p.m.

Boys soccer has a game against Glenbrook South. The game will start at 6:30 at GBS.


Friday, September 25th

Starting at 7:30 the varsity football team will play an away match at Glenbrook South.


Saturday, September 26th

This Saturday girls varsity volleyball will compete in the Northside College Prep Invite. The invite will start at 8:00 a.m.

Girls varsity tennis will be competing in a home quad starting at 9:00 a.m.

Boys and girls varsity Cross Country will be competing at the Hoffman Estates Invite.The invite is away at Busse Woods and will start at 10:30 a.m.

Boys soccer will play Montini at home at 10:00 a.m.
