The Niles West wolves Boys’ basketball team is back in action this Friday, against New Trier, hoping to come back with a win after their devastating 3-point loss to rival, Niles North.
The team is currently 0-3 in conference and are looking to catch their first conference win on their home court. The boys have been working hard in practice and are looking forward to competing against New Trier, who are 1-1 in conference.
Seniors and captains Johnny Pabst and Mirsad Mackic are excited to compete on Friday and have the mindset of finishing the game with a win.
“I’m feeling confident and excited for the challenge,” Pabst said. “They are a good team but if we can focus on our game and they way we need to play then we will be okay. We are looking to execute on offense and play tough on defense to limit their [scoring] opportunities. I’m looking forward to this home game because it’s fun to play in front of the student section that supports us every night.”
“New Trier always has a great team every year. This year I feel like we can really compete with them and give them a tough game. If we are able to do the little things for all four quarters, we will come out with a win.” Mackic said.
Senior John Lazar is also looking forward to the opportunity to play against New Trier, and is thrilled for the chance to take home their first in conference win.
“I feel confident in our team and what we can do against New Trier. Our coaches do a very good job of preparing us for big games. It’s our job to come out and play well from the very beginning.” Lazar said. “A lot of mental and physical preparation is needed for big games like this. We scout them and adapt to their play. On the mental side we have to be focused and not have mental lapses during the game. I’m looking forward to just playing in front of the fans and trying to put on a show while doing what we need to do: win.”
The boys play on Friday, January 13th at 7:00 pm in the contest gym. Make sure to come and support the boys as they play for the win.
