The Niles West girls varsity swimming team is off to a splash this season, winning their last three meets by landslides. The girls have a lot of potential to do great this season, and with their upcoming match against North, everybody is looking forward to the outcome.

Head varsity coach Jason Macejak is excited to see how this season will play out and has high expectations for this season.

“Every year I have been a head girls’ swimming coach for North and West, girls from both sides always come ready to compete hard. This meet for years has brought out great performances on both sides of the pool and I am hoping and expecting that this Thursday is no different,” Macejak said. “I expect the girls to step up and dive well. I expect them to be ready to swim at any event at any time during the meet. I expect them to race all the way into the wall. If the girls do all of those things, great things are going to happen.”

Macejak also sees big things happening this season with the girls, starting with their meet against North.

“As exciting as our dual meet with Niles North usually is, our main focuses are the conference, sectionals, and state meets at the end of the season. We want every girl to have their best scores and times in their final meet. As a program over the years, we have had a great success with that and I expect the girls this year to do the same thing.” Macejak said.

Junior Michelle Gonzalez is enthusiastic about the meet against North and is looking forward to bettering herself this season.

“I think it’ll be a close meet but we’ve been working hard this season and I know everyone will give 100%. We lost to them by very little at our invite so everyone wants a comeback.” Gonzalez said.

Junior Varsity swimmer Lauren Brace believes that the varsity meet against North will be exciting to watch, and is confident that West will come out on top.

“I expect it to be a really close meet with a lot of competitive races. I’m excited to see the varsity girls compete against our rival school and I’m hoping we will win but it’s going to be a close match.” Brace said.

Make sure to come out and support the girls as they take on Niles North at home this Thursday, Sept. 25th, at 5:00 p.m.
