What to Do When Skokie is Colder than Antarctica

What to Do When Skokie is Colder than Antarctica

As the winter season continues to plow through the area, snow days, as well as cold days, are bound to happen. With everyone being inside all day, it’s very easy to get extremely bored. The concepts of sleeping, eating and relaxing all sound great, but we all know doing something different is always fun. Here is a list of a couple of indoor activities that can distract you from facing boredom head-on.

Eat

Eating is everyone’s favorite thing to do. Whether you race to the store to grab your favorite binge show snack or make something homemade in the comfort of your home, food is always there for you. The brisk weather might make you feel lousy, but food will warm you up inside while conquering the idea of it being negative degrees outside. Food tastes great, is effortless to enjoy, and overall makes everyone happy.

Sleep

The next idea that everyone does without hesitation is sleep. Who doesn’t love sleeping until they physically can’t do it anymore? We all know the weekly hassle of getting up early in the morning and going to sleep in the middle of the night, so you can take the days off as recovery days. Turn down the lights, play some relaxing music, and hit the hay.

Netflix

Our generations phenomenon, Netflix. Picture this: curling up on the couch with your favorite blanket, a bowl of popcorn, your desired beverage, and binge-watching your favorite tv show for hours on end. That sounds like perfection to me. If you’ve finished your favorite show, start a new one. You can always scroll through Netflix’s new releases or most watched material to get some inspiration for what your new series is going to be.

Baking

On cold winter days, the best way to warm you up is baking your favorite sweets and filling your house with the smell of deliciousness. Whether you grab a store bought box of brownie mix or decide to conquer homemade chocolate chip cookies, it’s a win-win situation. You can even bring over a little care package of goodies to surrounding neighbors or nearby loved ones. Regardless, you get to stay indoors while stuffing your face with some of the best food around.

Clean out your closet

Another idea that people seem to forget about is a deep clean. As we get older, everyone forgets about the jeans that they don’t fit in anymore or the t-shirt they haven’t worn since seventh grade, so take the time to clean out your clothes. By cleaning out all of your old styles, you rid of any clutter and can put those old clothes to use by donating them. Therefore, you are creating more space for the upcoming styles for the spring collection while donating a wardrobe that could be useful to someone else.

Impromptu Fashion Show

With the idea of cleaning out your closet comes an impromptu fashion show. Rather than paying thousands of dollars to go to a fashion show and see high-end clothes that might not be affordable, throw on the clothes from your donation pile, get ready in front of a full body mirror, and strut your stuff. Everyone loves clothes, so this gives you an excuse to pile yourself in them for endless amounts of time.

Online Shop

Online shopping is a great way to relax, take your mind off of the cold, and possibly ring in some new items. Let’s be real, no one wants to leave their house in negative degree weather. Aside from that, online shopping requires no effort. You can be in the comfort of your home, avoiding any public conflicts that occur in stores, and simply track your package until it arrives at your doorstep. Online shopping guarantees great quality in an efficient amount of time.

Puzzles

Back in the day, puzzles were a hobby of people. Nowadays, they are extremely underrated. Puzzles provide you with a time-killer, a brain teaser, and create a beautiful masterpiece in the end. With the stress of losing a piece, you can completely put your time and focus into what you are doing and the next thing you know, it’s been hours since you first started. Drop your phones, turn off the television, and reboot mentally by starting a new and improved puzzle.

These ideas are the perfect way to kill time while striking up some new hobbies. Snow days are great but can get tedious when it’s a repetitive schedule, so try one of these out. Whether it’s the simplicity of trying on different clothing sequences or baking your favorite treat, you are in the comfort of your home and are exposing yourself to new things.
