Candidates for District 219 Board of Education had the opportunity to participate in a forum to discuss their reasons for wanting to be elected to the board.

This Tuesday, voters across District 219 cast ballots to elect a new school board. Six candidates ran for four-year terms, including incumbent David Y. Ko and new candidates Robert General Sr., Rebecca Abraham, Jill Manrique, Nashra Mohammed and James Specker.

The top four candidates receiving votes were elected to the school board; they were Rebecca Abraham (receiving 20.8 percent), Jill Manrique (receiving 19.2 percent), David Y. Ko (receiving 18.8 percent) and James Specker (receiving 18.1 percent). They will join the school board as members during the next term.
