Singer Selena Gomez released her third studio album, “Rare,” on Jan. 20. With her last successful album in 2015 called “Revival,” Gomez decided to come back with a range of 13 songs on her new one.

Her first single “Lose You to Love Me” became an instant hit after its release, especially to the “Jelena” fanbase. Fans speculate this song is either about her former boyfriend, singer  Justin Bieber or The Weeknd. No one has a clear answer as to who it’s about, but based on the lyrics, there’s a good chance it’s about Bieber. Besides the rumors, this song struck as one of the best current break up songs.

Personally, I’m disappointed with this album. I was expecting a lot more from her, and I feel let down. “Lose You to Love Me,” was the only good song that came from this album. The song is an absolute heartbreaking banger, but I can’t say the same for the rest of the album.

The second released single “Look At Her Now,” was not a vibe. It would have been so much better if she didn’t ruin it with the unnecessary effects in the song. To me, it’s just not appealing to listen to. Rather than singing and showing her talent, she just incorporates many effects that ruin everything. Her voice isn’t doesn’t sound as graceful and talented as she is; she sounds as if she just started learning how to sing.

Speaking for the rest of the album, I’m just highly unimpressed. “Crowded Room,” “Kinda Crazy,” and “Ring” are decent. Very steady beats with meaningful lyrics, but it’s nothing crazy. On a scale of one to ten, I’d rate this album a three. It really didn’t move me whatsoever, and I’d say her Disney Channel days were her peak. She still has time to redeem herself, but until then, I will be waiting.

Besides this album, she’s been featured and released a few singles over the years that were very good such as “The Heart Wants What It Wants,” “I Can’t Get Enough,” and “Back To You.” These were all such great songs with tons of emotion. It definitely hyped me up a lot for this album release, but unfortunately, I’m not as satisfied as I thought I’d be.
