A horrendous take on a Halloween mystery, “Hubie Halloween” is the newest Halloween themed movie to hit Netflix. This Netflix original movie features many well-known actors such as Adam Sandler, Noah Schnapp, Kevin James, and many more.

“Hubie Halloween” is your typical Adam Sandler comedy movie: corny, dumb, and cliche. This movie will definitely not fail to make you laugh because although it’s predictable humor, you just can’t help but laugh because it’s so corny. Not to mention, the plot and acting of the characters are terrible which adds on to the humorous aspect of the film. To me, corny and bad acted films are some of my favorite because they always end up putting a smile on my face and making me laugh non-stop.

Before this movie was released, the cast list of this movie was released on TikTok and many people said “It would be the movie to save 2020” as the “saving 2020” references are popular on that app with the current events that have happened this year. The cast list was pretty impressive and what drew me to it the most was the amount of old Disney channel stars featured in it such as, Karan Brar, China Anne McClain, Bradley Steven Perry, and much more. I was pretty disappointed with the overall screen time of all the old Disney actors because they played small parts, not major parts like I thought they would’ve. They all appeared on screen for a total of probably less than 10 minutes which saddened me. The majority of the screen time was taken up by Sandler.

I’m not going to lie and sugarcoat the movie, so my honest opinion of the plot was that it was awful. When I say awful, I mean awful. Half the movie was the side characters just making fun of “Hubie” played by Sandler. I wish it took more of an investigative Halloween murder turn rather than a plain mystery turn, hoping it would be similar to the movie “Murder Mystery” which Sandler also starred in on Netflix.

The idea of the movie had potential but the execution of it was unimpressive. I had high hopes for this movie but they just weren’t fulfilled.

Although I’ve pretty much implied that this movie is unbearable, the ending wasn’t totally terrible. It really brought together the investigative mystery aspect of the movie by revealing what they were going after the entire time. I will say, “plot twist” because who they end up catching, is not someone I expected. The end also angered me a little bit by what Hubie did but in the end, it made sense because it showed how his selfless character remained persistent throughout the entire movie.

I also felt sympathetic for Hubie because of the way he was treated during the entire movie. He was taken advantage of, bullied, scared, and chased. It made me realize that just because someone is so nice and selfless, you shouldn’t take advantage of them because they could have their own problems going on that you are unaware of.

I know it might seem like I despised this movie because of the way I described it, but it wasn’t that bad. I definitely recommend this if you are looking for a good Halloween laugh with a few friends which is why I’d rate this Netflix Original a 6.5/10.
