This historic NFL season is off to an amazing start as we end week 6 tonight. From the driving MVP race, to the standout teams, the notorious injuries, all of these things have made this season entertaining to watch as a viewer from home. One thing that has caught many eyes of the viewers, including myself, is this year’s rookies. Not only have some of these rookies already made their mark this season, but they have showed talent and leadership like we have never seen before. Within this article I will be prevailing my top five favorite rookies of this season and why I chose them. I will also have an honorable mentions list for some of the rookies who didn’t make the list, but still deserve some recognition.

We will begin this list with the Quarterback who’s putting up big numbers, Justin Herbert of the Los Angeles Chargers. Herbert didn’t get to start until week 2 after the starting QB, Tyrod Taylor, got hurt. Herbert threw for over 300 yards and got a rushing TD against the defending super bowl champs in his first game as a starting quarterback. He was named the official starter on week 5, after putting up around 900 yards between the 3 weeks he had been playing.

Next, we have the Minnesota Vikings new star wide receiver, Justin Jefferson. Jefferson was drafted 22nd overall in the draft out of LSU where history was made those four years connecting with Cincinnati Bengals Quarterback, Joe Burrow. But make no mistake, Jefferson continues to put up good numbers to a Vikings team who has gotten off to a rough start. In his week 6 contest with the Atlanta Falcons, Jefferson went on to grab 166 yards along with 2 touchdowns in the Vikings win over the Falcons. With the leadership of Adam Thielen, Jefferson is destined to become big in the league.

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers have been a destructive team this year in the NFC, not because of Tom Brady and his outlets on the offense, but because of their defense. Rookie Antoine Winfield Jr has been the lead of that secondary at that safety position having a forced fumble, 25 tackles, as well as 2 sacks and great explosiveness from the Ohio native.

The #2 overall pick in the draft, Chase Young has looked dangerous off the defensive line although dealing with injuries in both week 3 and 4. His stats are promising enough, with multiple tackles and sacks, and a forced fumble.

Pittsburgh Steelers new wide receiver, Chase Claypool, out of Notre Dame is making heads turn this season after his 4 touchdown game against the Philadelphia Eagles. Claypool is just under 400 yards in reception while racking up 6 TD’s with more to come. Claypool got off to a rough start in the beginning of the season which may be the lack of practice and preseason games, but without a doubt this 6’4 Canadian is a player to watch out for.

Honorable Mentions: Burrow (Bengals, QB), Ceedee Lamb (Dallas Cowboys, WR), Jaylon Johnson (Chicago Bears, CB), Clyde Edwards-Helaire (Kansas City Chiefs, RB), Mekhi Becton (New York Jets, OT).
