When people think of boxing, they think of movie stars like Rocky Balboa, or Apollo Creed. When it comes to real life stars, it can be Floyd “Money-Making” Mayweather, or Saul Canelo Alvarez. However, there are two legends on the block that have been in the game for decades and will face each other in the ring on November 28. These two men are Mike Tyson and Roy Jones Jr.

Starting off with Tyson’s early life, he and his two siblings were raised by his single mother. Going to school, Tyson was a victim of bullying, which lead him to pursue the talent of street fighting. However, because of his skills, it lead him on the wrong side of the tracks, committing crimes. After he was sent to a reform school, his counselor who was in amatuer boxing, promised to teach Tyson boxing if he stayed out of trouble. After participating in the Junior Amatuer Boxing Olympics, Tyson started his first pro fight at the age of 18 and won that fight in the first round by knockout. By the time Tyson was 20 years old, he was already the world’s youngest heavyweight boxing champion. Many people who do not follow boxing in the present day continue to know Tyson as the boxer who bit the ear off of boxer Evander Holyfield in their match in 1997. To this day, Tyson has the record of 50 wins, 44 of them by knockouts, and only 6 losses.

In the early life of Jones Jr., he grew up with two parents, one of them being a boxing trainer and the other being a Vietnam War veteran. Jones Sr. expressed how his father was like a Marine Drill sergeant, constantly taunting, verbally and physically abusing him. As Jones Jr. grew up, he used that fear as a way to teach himself that there will be no one stronger, or harder than what he has already faced. Soon, at the age of 20, he won his first pro fight against Ricky Randall on the second round by knockout. After going in many pro fights, he was nicknamed, “Captain Hook,” because of the different angles he would deliver his hooks (a punch by turing the core muscles back, then swinging the arm to the opponent). To this day, Jones Jr. has the record of 66 wins, 47 of them by knockouts, and only 9 losses.

On November 28, at the Dignity Health Sports Park in Carson, California, the fight will go 8 rounds between Tyson and Jones Jr.. At first, the fight was scheduled to be on the 12th of September, but was pushed back to the current date in order to maximize the revenue. It has been said that Jones Jr. may have regretted signing the contract to face Tyson, as based on Tyson’s previous fights, he is known to be the heavy explosive fighter. On the 29th of October, there will be a press conference between Tyson and Roy Jr. where more details will be revealed from both sides. Due to COVID guidelines, the fight will be hosted on traditional pay-per-view and TysonOnTriller.com. The cost to watch the event will be $49.99.

With these two legends soon to be facing each other, many are now wondering who will take the win home as both are known for their many victories, so few losses, and unique fighting skills that have beaten their opponents in their previous years.
