Barb and Star may be two of the most chaotic characters in cinematic history. The movie, “Barb and Star Go to Vista Del Mar”, follows the story of two lifelong midwestern best friends who decide to embark on a journey way out of their comfort zone. Where are they going might you ask? A colorful resort in Florida called Vista Del Mar.

Released on Feb 12., the comedic movie is jumbled with romance, turtles, musical numbers, murder, and of course, heavy midwestern accents. Star, played by Kristen Wiig, and Barb, played by Annie Mumolo, are your typical finish each other’s sentence, best friends. From working in the same store to sleeping in the same room, the duo does everything together. Everything. But after both decide they are suffering from a mid-life crisis after getting fired and kicked out of their “talking club”, they decide to go on a once-in-a-lifetime trip to fulfill their dreams of riding a banana boat.

After a long flight of Barb and Star blabbing about their imaginary friend Trish, a sea ghost spirit played by Reba McEntire, they finally arrive at the resort. At a bar, they meet the handsome Edgar, played by Jamie Dornan, who is working as an undercover “spy” threatening to release a swarm of deadly mosquitoes. As Star and Barb spend a whole night partying with Edgar they both start to fall in love with him, which ends up threatening their friendship. The duo learns through chaotic experiences and a pop-up experience from Tommy Bahama how important their friendship really is.

I honestly couldn’t pinpoint just one moment in the whole entire movie that was my favorite. Dornan deserves applause for his eccentric dancing and singing which was well unexpected. Wiig and Mumolo so vividly brought their characters to life and with Dornan playing a lovestruck villain, the whole movie was a masterpiece. The best thing about Barb and Star is that they’re these middle-aged midwestern women stuck in a different decade, and have these random topics of discussions throughout their day.

If Barb and Star were real people in my life I wouldn’t be able to tolerate them one bit, but if I were friends with them that would be a totally different story. Not to mention when Barb and Star made a cameo appearance at the 2021 Golden Globes, I screamed. Thee Barb and Star announcing a category at the Golden Globes was iconic.

The PG-13 movie may not have won a Golden Globe, but it will win over your heart. “Barb and Star Go to Vista Del Mar” is filled with comedic chaos that will leave you with tears in your eyes. Almost every scene, is filled with a pun: Barb and Star talking about turtles, a Stranger Things themes trailer, the Morgan Freeman voiced crab, a near-death experience involving Kermit the Frog, and Dornan singing about Seagulls while climbing a tree; it’s so stupid yet random and unexpected.

I rate this film a 10/10; it reminds me of a mix of Mamma Mia and Bridesmaids. My only problem was that the hour and a half long movie goes by so quickly. I would’ve loved to watch this movie in the theaters and be able to hear other people laugh at the same stupid joke as me. It’s one of those movies you can watch over and over again and still find funny. Anyone looking to watch a carefree movie needs to watch “Barb and Star Go to Vista Del Mar” as soon as possible.
