On Fri. April 2. American rapper Lil Tjay came out with his much anticipated second album, “Destined 2 Win”. The album immediately did well, just as predicted. The album is classified as generally a Hip Hop album, even though it has other genres of music sprinkled in. This makes it similar to his previous “State of Emergency” extended play, as well as his debut album “True 2 Myself. He also keeps the ‘2’ instead of ‘to’ in both albums.

The album contains eighteen tracks with three bonus songs (with a runtime of 64 minutes), all from different styles of music. There are R&B rap hybrids like “Irregular Love”, melodic anthems like “Slow Down”, and cinematic trap ballads like “Hood Rich” scattered throughout the album, all showcasing different styles that Lil Tjay excels at.

I can definitely see why he got as popular as he did, with some of his songs even making it to the Billboard Hot 100. His album is also filled with collaborations with other artists, such as Polo G, Fivio Foreign, Saweetie, Tyga, Offset, and more. I believe that their collaboration and voices compliment Lil Tjay’s voice and music very well, and just overall add so much to the songs.

The songs themselves have really great lyrics in my opinion, talking about ‘getting through it’ and ‘being the best’. He’s reminiscing on it all; the good, the bad, the ugly, the undeniable learning experiences. The album is definitely great, from lyrical meanings to the music and singing itself, especially for people who enjoy slower-type songs. Lil Tjay also said himself that he plans for “Destined 2 Win to be the number one album in 2021, and it doesn’t seem like that far-fetched of a dream.

In general, I think that the album is pretty good. Even though I personally don’t like slower songs such as the ones that make up this album, I still thoroughly enjoyed a good few of them. I definitely recommend checking out the album on Spotify, as well as generally checking out Lil Tjay’s other works if you’re into Hip Hop and genres similar to that. I personally give the album a 7/10.
