Use, Reuse…and What NOT to Recycle

With the start of second quarter, everything’s finally in full swing, especially Go Green Club, who have been emptying all of the classrooms’ garbage cans every Thursday. However, they club is facing a problem: Sorting through the recycling bins in order to remove what doesn’t belong in there.

Go Green Club asks that when recycling, only put recyclable materials in the bins. Things that are not able to be recycled should go in a garbage can instead.

“In the recycling bins, we’ve found gum, used tissues, open milk cartons that are still filled, and pizza crusts,” said club member Rachael Kossy.

The problem with this is that it takes club members longer to sort through recycling bins, as well as having to give up on some bins entirely.

“We try to pick out easy stuff, like bottles. However, it has to be trashed if there’s too much garbage in there,” said Kossy. “Though that’s only in extreme cases.”

Yes, they do collect the trash on Wednesdays. I could’ve sworn that I put down “Wednesday” in my original draft of this article, so maybe the day they collect accidentally got changed during the editing process. Or perhaps I wrote down “Thursday” on accident.

Either way, thank you for noticing the error! I’ll see if I can fix it.
