If you’re interested in sick, true crime documentaries, then the new Jeffery Dahmer show on Netflix should be next on your “to watch” list. The series is created by Ryan Murphy and Ian Brennan, and it’s based on a true story about the American Serial Killer from the late 70s to early 90s who would kill men and consume little bits of their human flesh. As a person who loves true crime documentaries, this one is truly eerie and sickening, especially after hearing about the stuff that he would do.

As crazy as it sounds, he committed over seventeen murders without anyone knowing for almost twenty years. After the victims died, Dahmer would have intercourse with them and dismember their bodies, sometimes keeping body parts, like their skulls or genitals, as souvenirs. The story is vile and gruesome and he was an incredibly evil person. What makes things even more chilling, is that this all occurred not too far from here as it happened in Milwaukee, Wisconsin.

The show is primarily told from the point of view of his victims, which makes the story so difficult to watch. Because of this, there has been a lot of controversy about the release of this show because family members of the victims have to relive and rewatch the nightmare right in front of their eyes. Also, with the show being released many people plan on dressing as Jeffrey Dahmer for Halloween which is upsetting for the victim’s families as well.

The actor playing the main character, Jeffery Dahmer, is the famous Evan Peters, known for his role in the show American Horror Stories. It is crazy to me how much Peters resembles Dahmer and how perfectly he plays this character. In an interview with Netflix, Peters describes his feelings about the show and what it was like putting himself in the shoes of a serial killer. “It was so jaw-dropping that it all really happened, and it felt important to be respectful to the victims, the victims’ families, to try and tell the story as authentically as we could… Trying to commit to that was absolutely going to be one of the hardest things I’ve ever had to do in my life because I wanted it to be very authentic,” Peters told Netflix.

This show was so incredible and so well filmed, that it is as if the audience was experiencing grief, anger, fear, depression, and all the other feelings that one would express living during that time period.  The series was released at the end of September and has already broken the record for the most-watched show in the first week of its release with 96.2 million hours viewed. I would rate this show based on how well it’s made and how thrilling it is, 10/10.
