Opinion: Are Haunted Houses Really Worth It?

By Cristina Davison, Staff writer

Now that we have settled into the month of October, many are already getting ready for the spooky season and for Halloween. With many planning Halloween costumes and setting up decorations, there are many haunted houses that have now opened to the public. As tickets begin to sell, I ask myself the question, are haunted houses truly worth it? In my opinion, they are.

With October having recently arrived, many are buying tickets and ready to experience the fear inside of all these spooky houses. Many have affordable prices, such as 13 floors. 13 floors recently set up its calendar with available dates, times, and prices. Most of the prices vary between $20-$30. The prices remain affordable, depending on the date you choose to experience any haunted house.

Despite the affordable costs, choosing a date and time to go are extremely flexible. Many haunted houses will supply their customers with a calendar on their website where you can book this scary experience on any day you wish. Having flexibility in your schedule will always allow the experience of a Haunted House to be more fun. People with a busy, tight schedule can still go during the weekends.

Now as for the actual experience, it is the best part. Mainly if you bring a friend or two. Being able to walk in the darkness, with many hidden jump-scares lurking and watching within the shadows is honestly my favorite. To make the experience more spooky and for people to pay attention, there should be mazes within the haunted houses. The fun of screaming and clinging onto your friends while seeking the exit just adds more to the spooky, scary time.

Having a sore throat from screaming, while you laugh with your friends after finishing the haunted house will always be something to look back on. Taking group selfies or photos with the actors is something you can enjoy, either posting or looking back to relive and remember such an experience. A personal favorite experience of mine was at a haunted house I attended years ago with a group of friends. It is something I’m pleased to look back on since we enjoyed walking fast and screaming due to the amount of jump scares.

Haunted houses also have many warnings and rules about the house before you go inside. For example, a couple of warning signs are flashing lights, no roughhousing, etc. This ensures that you are aware and careful of your experience.

Haunted houses are some of the best things to experience in the fall, so you better hurry and book those available dates now because I know I will.
